Following is part of conversation between two women, in their late-forties or early-fifties, that I recently overheard on the M15 downtown bus. Note that the movie “Ray” was just released in theatres approximately one week before the incident.

Ok. Enough gloom, doom, and wallowing. Some good news!

I am so depressed today.
I knew I would be disappointed if Bush won, but I did not expect to feel this bad. I didn’t think it would feel so personal. I feel terrible. Sick. Like some monumentally negative thing just happened.
